When was the last time you tested your disaster recovery (DR) plan? Probably a long time ago, especially if you have been busy just keeping up with the daily challenges of supporting a domestic workforce. Just because your applications are in the cloud, it doesn't mean that they don't depend on certain web and database servers and other infrastructure elements. Part of any good DR plan is to document these dependencies and have a manual that describes the most critical workflows.
The Linux system administrator has an active role in patching, compiling, securing, and troubleshooting Linux servers in a heterogeneous environment. The professional performs system updates and server configurations.
Another big part of any DR plan is to do ongoing testing for partial cloud failures. You will likely experience some interruptions. Even clouds from Amazon, Google and Microsoft experience this from time to time. Netflix was one of the first places to popularize general chaos engineering several years ago, with a tool called Chaos Monkey. It was designed to test the company's AWS infrastructure, constantly shutting down - and randomly - multiple production servers.

Use these lessons and tools to develop your own chaos-driven failure tests, particularly with security-related tests that reveal weaknesses in your cloud configuration. The key element is to do this automatically and continuously to reveal bottlenecks and infrastructure failures. In addition to using Netflix's open source tools, there are commercial products like Verodin / Mandiant’s Security Validation, SafeBreach’s Breach and Attack Simulation, Cymulate simulation tools and AttackIQ’s Security Optimization Platform.
