The AWS has become the latest corporate player in the Mac space, offering Mac minis in the cloud for developers seeking infrastructure based on this environment.
Times are changing
Amazon's "Mac mini as a service" is now available, reflecting Apple's continued growth in enterprise computing. It is the first time that AWS has offered to run macOS on demand in the cloud, the feature can be scaled and accessed on a pay-as-you-go basis and allows developers to access dozens of additional AWS services.
These Mac instances can be used to develop, test, secure and sign Xcode applications for the Apple platform, including macOS, iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, watchOS and Safari. The service aims to "speed up the development lifecycle" for application developers on Apple platforms.
Here's what Amazon says:
"Our customers tell us that they would love to have their Apple building environment integrated with AWS services," said David Brown, vice president of EC2 for AWS.
“With EC2 Mac instances, developers can now provision and access macOS computing environments on demand on AWS for the first time, so they can focus on building innovative applications for Apple’s market-leading platforms, rather than purchasing and manage the underlying infrastructure. ”
And this is how Apple reacts:
"Apple's thriving community of more than 28 million developers continues to create innovative application experiences that delight customers around the world," said Bob Borchers, Apple's vice president of worldwide product marketing.
“With the launch of EC2 Mac instances, we are excited to make development for Apple platforms accessible in new ways and to combine the performance and reliability of our world-class hardware with the scalability of AWS.”
